The Hawaiian Pune'e is a moveable couch or bed seen in corners of living rooms.

In Hawaii with our relaxed lifestyle, one piece of furniture that many of us love to have in our homes is called a Pune’e which is a moveable couch or bed seen in corners of living rooms, on the lanai or covered porch and other rooms of the home. The pune’e was originally a stack of lauhala mats used by Native Hawaiians for sleeping or lounging in grass houses. Today, Pune’e’s are used as extra sleeping areas as well as lounging and napping during the day. They are often created from single or double beds with lots of pillows or bolsters added for comfort and support. Some are simply set on the floor, while others are more intricate with built in support from a platform made from bamboo, teak or other exotic materials. In Hawaii we have had a trend toward Indonesian furniture for a rustic, tropical look so some of the current day pune’e’s may have intricate carvings and be higher off the floor. However they are made, simple to luxurious, a Pune’e is one of the most inviting places to curl up with a good book and look out at the Pacific Ocean and relax. The multitude of colorful or designer pillows invites anyone to take a deep breath and relax to enjoy our “Hawaii Life”

Regarding homes:

Secure windows and doors, leavea light , TV or music on, keep garage door closed, lower hedges for easier visibility, install motion sensor lights, install alarm or similar devices, get to know your neighbors, let neighbors know when you travel.

Regarding cars:

Lock doors, roll up windows, do not leave keys in vehicle, keep valuables out of view, park vehicle near a light, park in garage if possible, install anti theft device, install alarm system.

Note:

These tips will help deter the amateur or common criminal , but will not stop determined criminal, professional or someone under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

If you come across a crime in progress or discover you have had a break in, leave the area immediately. The criminal might still be around. When you are clear from the area call 911 on your cell phone, pay phone or neighbors home.

If you awaken to a criminal in your home, or if they enter while you are awake and you are unable to leave, find a secure location, lock yourself from the intruder and call 911. If there is no phone in the room you have locked yourself into, open a window and yell from your neighbor’s help. But if possilbe, leave the home and call 911.

If you have others in your home (family, roommates, etc.) yell “there is a burglar in the house” so they can also secure themselves in a safe area or leave the home. Making a plan ahead of time for an incident like this will help you and them be more prepared.

Note: Criminals will usually break into your home or car to steal items. Do not confront them. Your property is replaceable, you are not. Luckily the Big Island is still a safe and great community. We just have to be aware of possible situations that very rarely would arise.

We didn’t get a chance to do half the stuff we wanted so we will just have to come back. Snorkeling on the beach and seeing the turtles was great!” Tim and Cynthia B., Port Alberni , British Columbia

2/10/2004 “What a great location” high up to catch the breeze, see the sunset and walk to the beach. We appreciate the extras, beach towels, a big coffee pot, ice packs, sand chairs, able to wash clothes, grill and toilet paper!! What a great place for our needs, to be together” The Ericsons

6/29/2005 “We had a beautiful family vacation” everyone – ages 5 to 60 , had a fantastic time.

5/28/2006 Whale’s Tail– Puako. ” Whale’s Tail is a fabulous rental property. The furnishings and layout are wonderful , and the location may be the best in Puako. Puako itself is an undiscovered gem. The beach outside of the house is perfect for small children to play in and practice their snorkeling. When the tide goes out., exploring the tidepools can last for hours and of course we viewed lots and lots of sea turtles in our little cove. This was a fabulous Hawaiian vacation we will never forget” Brett, Lorraine, Emily and Grace B.

We plan to go to the newly reopened surf park in Kawaihae harbor and cleanup both the long stretch of beach and in the water. Email us at godiving@kohaladivers.com to sign up to join our event. As always we will provide refreshments, and free tanks for any certified volunteers. You don’t have to be a diver to sign up though, we need lots of cleanup on the beach too!!Read on for the facts on why keeping our beaches and oceans clean is a must do for our community! Marine Debit facts About 230 million tons of trash is generated per year in the United States alone. Less than a quarter of that is recycled. Humans generate waste faster than it can be broken down and use up resources faster than they can be replaced. Two million plastic beverage bottles are used in the US every five minutes. 60,000 plastic bags are used in the US every five seconds. 106,000 aluminium cans are used in the US every thirty seconds. Six million tonnes of debris enters the world’s oceans every year. Approximately 80 percent of trash in our oceans and waterways comes from land – via wind and runoff from city streets and highways. About 20 percent of aquatic debris is generated from ships including floats and fishing gear. Nearly 90 percent of all marine debris is plastic. To date, plastic outweighs zooplankton 6:1. An estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic litter alone are floating on every square mile of ocean – 70 percent of which will eventually sink. The average person uses about 200 pounds of plastic in a year. Plastic industry experts expect that number to increase to 300 by the end of the decade. Each year, 15 billion pounds of plastics are produced in the US alone. Only 1 billion pounds are recycled. Plastics do not biodegrade. When plastic debris meets water it remains for centuries – breaking down slowly into smaller fragments and finally into plastic dust. Aluminum cans take up to 100 years to degrade and 6-pack holder rings 450 years. It takes glass bottles one million years to biodegrade in the natural environments. Entanglement and ingestion of fishing line, nets, rope and other debris has been reported in more than 260 animal species worldwide. An estimated 100,000 marine mammals including dolphins, whales, seals and sea turtles choke or get tangled in debris every year. Nearly 8 million items of debris weighing 7 million pounds were collected by about 35,000 volunteers worldwide during International Cleanup Day 2006. Nearly 300 species of defenceless wildlife suffers unnecessarily due to dangerous debris. More than 1 million seabirds are killed by aquatic litter each year. 86 percent of all sea turtles are affected by marine debris.

Altogether, the chain of Hawaiian Islands has a breathtaking, natural beautywhich encompasses incredible scenery, vistas, valleys, violent waterfalls, blowing winds & volcanic Island chains. People are also attracted by the Hawaiian mystical rainforests and clear blue waters. Hawaii, with its wide spread flora, fauna and fresh greenery, is the perfect place to satisfy your strong desire for tropical adventure. Hawaii is the home to one of the world’s most active and dormant volcanoes, rainbows, snow, rushing rivers, historical sites and the world’s tallest sea mountains. But perhaps Hawaii’s most unique feature is its Aloha Spirit: the warm affection of the people of Hawaii that wonderfully complements the Islands’ fluctuating temperatures. Activities like hiking, bird watching, sailboat tours, kayaking, deep sea fishing, diving and snorkeling are regular pastimes in local life. Unlike some other more developed islands in the volcanic chain, the Big Island feels more prehistoric, exotic, lush and wild. Vacation Rentals in Hawaii The array of Hawaii Vacation Rentals found here, combine the unique, practically attractive landscapes of the Big Island with a fresh level of beauty. The elegant and masterfully designed homes, cottages and condos look graceful among the residential neighborhood, while providing breathtaking oceanfront views on the magnificent Kohala and Kona Coast. The Big Island & the Kona and Kohala coasts provide a great variety of opportunities for relaxation. In Hawaii, people can find plenty of vacation cottages, suitable for couples, small families and even groups. People can enjoy their holidays in well furnished & beautifully designed houses and gorgeous private rentals. Some of the world’s most upscale resorts are found here. The vacation rentals of Hawaii are perfect for both adventure and nature lovers to discover and enjoy the charming island.

People often ask what do people do when they live in this area. This area is loaded with activities like dance classes, painting, nature tours and culinary spectaculars.

One well known local artisan ,Angel Prince, of Prince Dance helps organize and teach classes and events along the Kohala and Hamakua Coast lines. One class she is currently promoting is the Argentine Tango every third Friday of the month.

Friday March 20th

6:30-7:30 class
7:30-10:30 Milonga

At the Blue Barn in Puuanahulu
Upper road to Kona/waimea across
from the Big Island Country Club

“PrinceDance was formed to create new works of dance designed to enlighten, challenge and inspire its audiences. Using a multitude of mediums, the company explores new realms of expression and perspectives on personal, social and universal issues. PrinceDance strives to push boundaries and ignite new thoughts through its performances, classes, and collaborative projects.”

From Rehearsal page of www.PrinceDance.com

I am fascinated as I watch: Angel Prince creates as she moves. She talks her dancers through the fluid motion of her mind as it is translated through her body. What I see happening is the best likened to the work of a sculptor. How the truly gifted sculptor allows the form to emerge from the stone, simple does the work of peeling off the layers, helping it to find and reveal its shape. For Angel, the dance emerges, quite naturally. Her task, and clearly her gift, is to intuit it. Feel it in the air around her body, how it moves in the music around her ears.

When I first met her, it was easy to understand her as a performer, a dancer and lover of life, but when I saw her work, as an instructor and as choreographer, I was able to understand more fully what makes her tick. It is not just dancing or just teaching, or even just coming up with movements that fit music. It is art. The dynamic business of intuiting form from nebulous matter and bringing to life in physical movement what we might only have been able to sense viscerally. Perhaps the greatest gift she gives to those she teaches is a way to communicate with the body ideas that are truly profound and which might simply be obscured by language. There is no argument in what simply rises in our hearts as we watch the body move and express. It just is. Thus is born the gift to the audience.

Be sure to visit her site.

Alan Lundberg was a awarded the nomination for putting together and starting the Maui Chapter of NARPM during this year. As with any endeavor such as this, there is a list of people who worked together to make the Maui Chapter a reality, I merely did some of the “legwork”, Lundberg said.

” The real pride I get in receiving this award is not in the award itself, but in the fact that an organization such as NARPM, a group of the most professional Property Managers in the nation; people who hold their Property Owners and their properties in such high esteem and who exercise a moral and ethical committment to their tenants and the public as well would consider me worthy to receive such a prestigious award.”

Rocky Maxwell was a “giant of a man”, both physically and spiritually, who saw the vision of Property Managers coming together to share knowledge and become educated in the Property Management field and was one of the Founding Fathers of the NARPM Organization, dedicated to the betterment of the industry and it’s participants.

” I am extremely proud to be a member of the National Association of Residential Property Managers at the national level and a member of the Big Island/West Hawaii Chapter at the local level, and will continue to work toward the values and goals of NARPM and encourage others to do the same.”

Alan Lundberg specializes in Estate Management services, Real Estate Sales and the meetings here and abroad relating to the Real Estate industry.

Great job Alan, from all the staff , we are very proud of you and appreciate all of your efforts!

Many of our guests and owners often times need to get to Hawaii on a moments notice to close a deal. With the multi million dollar homes lining the shores of the west side of Hawaii, private jets have become the new choice for vacation rental and real estate travelers. With exclusive resorts and neighborhoods like Hualali, Mauna Lani, Waikoloa, and the Northern Kohala coast, we are seeing more an more people fly outside the normal commercial carriers.

There are many different carriers to get you there, here is what one carrier sent to us to update their offerings for guests and owners looking for different way to travel for business or pleasure.

NEW YORK, NY -January 2007-According to the 2007 survey from the independent New
York-based Luxury Institute, Blue Star Jets has been recognized as the most prestigious
brand in the Private Jets Services category.
“Blue Star Jets is privileged to receive this award,” said Ricky Sitomer, CEO of Blue Star
Jets. “We are the only company that works for the customer, and this award signifies that
our commitment to customer service and attention to detail bears a real difference in the
experience of flying with us.”
Blue Star Jets bested Bombardier Flexjet, Citation Shares, Marquis, and Net Jets, among
others en route to being honored as the top brand in private aviation-a post it has held
since 2005.
“[Survey results] indicate that since our last survey smaller boutique brands continue to
overtake the larger players in brand status and that the larger brands need to redesign and
deliver a far better customer experience to earn a better brand reputation score,” said
Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute.
Through Blue Star Jets’ Sky Card program, customers are granted access to 4,000
executive aircraft, ranging from helicopters and turboprops to jumbo jets. With freedom to
choose the perfect aircraft for every trip, Blue Star Jets clients can maximize productivity
while minimizing investment. And with in-flight services such as Jivamukti Yoga, massage
from Exhale spa, and catering from Nobu, it is clear that the Blue Star Jets standard has no
equal.
To continue its quest for improved customer satisfaction, Blue Star Jets has launched the
first rewards program in private aviation. Beginning in January, Blue Star Jets clients are
awarded points for every dollar they spend. Points can then be redeemed for high-end
luxury lifestyles products, such as Bang & Olufsen plasma televisions.
The Luxury Institute asked ultra-wealthy consumers to rate each brand on delivering
superior quality, uniqueness and exclusivity; on whether the brand is used by people who
are admired and respected; on the ability of the brand to make clients feel special
throughout the entire customer experience; and whether the customer would refer friends
and business associates to the service. The survey also asked responders to rate each brand
on price worthiness and on change in status over the previous 12 months.

Thank you for the update on their achievement in providing a great service to our islands. Hawaii Vacation Rentals can help you coordinate your traveling needs relating to vacation rentals and real estate deals. There are many different ways to get to the islands with multiple private jet companies, so do your research.
