Princeville Community Update

Those of you who already own or have researched the Princeville area probably know that we have a “Princeville at Hanalei Community Association.” Their November 2008 Newsletter provided some valuable updates which I’d like to share with you, starting with their request to close the path to Queen Emma’s Bath during the winter months. This request comes as a result of two recent death at this popular tourist attraction. The parking lot and trail for Queen Emma’s bath are owned and controlled by the County not the PHCA but the PHCA submitted a written request for closure of both the lot and the trail due to the dangerous condition often present during the winter months. More forthcoming on this issue.

If you are going to be here on December 14th, be sure to show up for the “2nd Annual Holiday Event & Tree Lighting Ceremony” held at the Community Center (located across Emmalani behind the Library) from 4 pm to 6 pm. This is a family event so bring your camera and enjoy the lights, refreshments and music. The Princeville Home Decorating Contest is happening again this year with a deadline of December 22nd for all participating homes. To join in on the fun, (and maybe win a prize) you need to submit an entry form which can be filled out over the phone at 808 826 6687.

The Makai Golf Course renovation is moving right along. “The two nines of the 27-hole course consisting of Ocean, Lakes and Woods nines built in 1969 by Robert Trent Jones Jr. will have its green rebuilt with new drainage systems and USGA approved greens mix soil, its tees rebuilt and repositioned, its sand bunkers lined and new sand added. Additionally, course drainage will be added, the irrigations system updated, and a new driving range will be built with target greens, sand bunkers, and practice putting and chipping greens. Following final shaping of the course, greens, tees and airways will be grassed with a variety of seashore paspalum, while Woods nine will remain open for play during this renovation process,” per the November newsletter. This should all be good news for the golfers out there.

If you ever wondered about the Pavilion in Prince Albert Park (adjacent to the PHCA Community Center) or the multi purpose room in the Community Center, wonder no more. The Pavilion cannot be rented, and is available on a first come – first served basis. If you are planning to hold an event there, please contact Princeville Patrol at 808 826-6181 to fill out a use agreement form. The multi purpose room can be reserved for your event. Simply go to the website (www.pcaonline.org) and look at Community Center Calendar to see if the room is available for your use, then download the reservation form, fill it out, and return it along with a deposit/fee to the PHCA Community Center. Deposit and charges vary depending on the event. You can also call the Community Center at 808 826 6687.

The PHCA website is a wealth of information, and if you’ve never looked at it before now is a good time. Just go to www.pcaonline.org to see the newly redesigned website where you can check events being held at the Center, review the Board of Director meeting minutes and more. It’s a great resource for those who live here and for those of you who will live here in your dreams — until they become your reality.
