Cockroaches and alligators…..a part of life.
I really do hate cockroaches, centipedes too! If you saw my reaction to finding one of these critters in my condo, you’d of thought the world was coming to an end. My boyfriend watched with amusement the other day as I confronted a cockroach in the hallway, armed with a can of Raid designed to prevent this creature from taking even one more living step. He was eventually called to duty to dispose of the dead cockroach body because I don’t even like getting close to them. There’s just something about them, and centipedes too, that I truly don’t like. For my girlfriend, it’s the cane spiders. They will send her running everytime. She’ll sell the house and move out if she sees one of these critters alive in her domain that escapes her death sentence. Thankfully, she has cats that keep the insect world under control. Yet, they are all a part of Paradise.
Thats right, you heard me right. Centipedes and cockroaches (and other critters) exist quite happily here on our tropical Island. It’s not a sign that your housekeeping is below par, or that you are deficient in some other aspect of cleanliness. The fact of the matter is, at one or time another, despite your best efforts and regardless of how often you have your home or condo sprayed for “pest control” trust me, you will find a cockroach or a centipede. So be forwarned and be prepared.
Now things could be worse, in fact, they could be much worse. For example, in today’s Garden Island newspaper I saw an article from the Associated Press. The headline of this small article caught my attention big time: “Florida Woman Finds 8 foot Alligator in Kitchen.” I sat there for a moment envisioning this scenario and simply could not believe it. Suddenly my cockroaches and centipedes seemed like “small bananas.” The article basically said that a 69 year old Central Florida woman found an 8 foot long alligator prowling in her kitchen late Monday night. “Sandra Frosti says the gator must have pushed through the back porch screen (I think I’d install steel doors) and then went inside through an open sliding glass door (that’s the last time that door would be left open) at her home in Oldmar, just north of Tampa. It them apparently strolled (can’t you just picture a strolling alligator???) through the living room, down a hall and into the kitchen. A trapper with Animal Capture of Florida removed the alligator, which was cut by a plate that was kicked to the ground during the chaos. (I bet there was some chaos!!!) But no one inside the house was injured.” Unbelievable. I’ll take my cockroaches and centipedes anyday. Welcome to my world!
