Aloha Airlines Ends Passenger Service
Yesterday, Aloha Airlines announced that their last day of operations will be Monday, March 31, 2008. An announcement on their website states, “This is an incredibly dark day for Hawaii,” said David A. Banmiller, Aloha’s president and chief executive officer. “Despite the groundswell of support from the community and our elected officials, we simply ran out of time to find a qualified buyer or secure continued financing for our passenger business. We had no choice but to take this action.
We deeply regret the impact this will have on our dedicated employees who have made Aloha one of the best operating airlines in the country. Aloha Airlines was founded in 1946 to give Hawaii’s people a choice in inter-island air transportation.
Unfortunately, unfair competition has succeeded in driving us out of business, bringing to an end a 61-year-old company with a proud legacy of serving millions of travelers in the true spirit of Aloha. We realize that this comes as a devastating disappointment to our frequent flyers and our loyal business partners who have supported this company for many, many years.” For more information go to www.alohaairlines.com. Their local number is 1 800 367 5250 but it is impossible to get through at this time.

As someone who is still holding coupons for Mid Pacific and Mahalo Airlines, both of which were put out of business by Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines predatory price discounting and lawsuits I find it hard to feel sorry for Aloha. Apparently it’s a different story for Aloha (and Hawaiian)when the shoe is on the other foot. They had a monopoly for far too long.

Aloha Rick,
I know the feeling. I had tickets for Oahu later this month on my Aloha miles, which I guess are now worthless. I quickly got online and got new reservations with GO!

Hi Elaine,
I had 186,000 frequent flyer miles and no matter how many times I tried to use some of them the flights/dates I wanted to travel on were always booked. I even tried a year out once and no luck.
