Where do I go on vacation? Take a look…..

Ok, I’ll come clean. I’ve been posting less the last few weeks because I’ve been on vacation. There, I said it. I’m back but I’m just now getting things organized again after being gone. But here’s the question I’m often asked, just where do you go for vacation when you live somewhere like Kauai? For me, the answer is Sedona, voted as the most beautiful place in America in 2003 by USA’s Weekend’s Annual Travel Report. Quite a distinction.

Sedona is very much like Kauai to me, minus the water. It’s about 1.5 hours from Scottsdale up in the mountains, isolated from the big cities, filled with incredibly beautiful red rock. It has all of Kauai’s beauty, just in another way. It’s also very spiritually based, and is famous for its energetic “vortexes” much like Kauai is known for its powerful “mana.” Also like Kauai, Sedona has their smaller equivalent of our wild boars known as javelinas. They look like small, very hairy pigs, with bulky bodies on short legs with three-toed hooves. Their hair is long and bristly, with spiky ruffs around their necks and sometimes on top of their heads. The one I saw while hiking looked like it had a mohawk down its back, its hair stuck up so straight. There are so many great places to hike I can’t begin to name them all. Wilson Mountain, Bear Mountain, Cathedral Rock and Oak Creek are a just a few of my favorites. This year I explored some new areas, like Indian Maiden Trail along with revisiting many old favorites.

Take a look and you’ll see why I think this area is so beautiful:

This last picture is me standing by the creek with the stunning Cathedral Rock behind me. You can hike almost to the top of this “rock” or take your mountain bike and enjoy many of the trails as long as they are not designated as “wilderness area.”

The other place many Kauaians go is to Las Vegas. In fact, this city has one of the largest Hawaiian populations outside of Hawaii. I spent a bit of time there this vacation and noticed they have Hilo Hattie’s, and an Aloha Marketplace. Las Vegas for me is not about gambling but more about the architecture of the various casinos. It’s like a trip around the world just walking down the strip where you can see one of the Pyramids, New York, Pirates of the Caribbean (Treasure Island) and the gondoliers of Venice at the Venetian. Plus more!

So that’s why my blog has had fewer entries than normal. Of course, I take my Real Estate with me, by way of a smart phone and my laptop. It’s fun to travel and know I can take my business with me and still provide service to my clients. But I’m back, the surf is up and pounding, which is a great sound not to mention awesome to see. The weather has been sunny and breezy by day with morning and late evening showers. This is a beautiful time of the year, especially knowing that the whales are coming – in fact, some were already seen on the South Shore. Does it sound like I’m happy to be back? The answer is a resounding YES. The mainland is fun but this is home. If you want to make it your home too, or are heading to Sedona and want some hiking tips, yep…I’ll take care of both!
