SHORELINES MOVING – Not Mother Nature

HAWAII STATE SENATE could change Hawaii’s shoreline faster than Mother nature’s most magnificent efforts! You know that Kilauea is building land where there was none on The Big Island of Hawaii. You probably read that the force of the weight of the land masses themselves is causing each of the Hawaiian Islands to gradually subside into the Pacific Ocean.

GRETCHEN LAMBETH, Principal Broker and Hawaiian Isle Real Estate LLC. owner, recently asked, “Did you know that a proposal to increase the shoreline setbacks from 40′ to 750′ on the North Shore of Oahu has passed Hawaii’s Senate?”

THIS COULD OPEN DEBATE about increasing setbacks across Hawaii. The setbacks distance was already changed for the state last fall; from 40′ from the vegetation line to 40′ from the highest wash of the waves. All of this is being generated by Turtle Bay Resorts plan to revive their master plan and add up to 3,500 units to the 880-acre resort, Gretchen said.

CHANGING THE SETBACKS for building along the ocean could greatly impact existing landowners and plans for their properties. If you are interested in voicing your opinion, contact Hawaiian Isle Real Estate LLC for a copy of this Pacific Business News article.
