Kekaha’s Monthly Community Meeting Tonight at 7:00 pm

County officials kickoff of a series of public meetings tonight, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center. The purpose of the meetings is to inform the community about landfill related issues, (yes we have one in paradise), such as the status of the Kekaha Landfill lateral expansion, requirements for modern landfill design, and community concerns. Q & A to follow.

Kekaha’s Plantation Era Homes

More and more, visitors and prospective buyers have learned to appreciate the plantation era homes of Kekaha. When I say era, I mean from the 1930’s and 40’s. These homes are usually in poor condition and hanging on to life by a thread but they are an integral link to Hawaii’s past. They can have extensive termite damage and wood rot, inferior plumbing, small rooms, you name it so when deciding to become an owner of a home of this epoch, one must consider, not only cost to cure, but how to balance mixing the old with the new without sacrificing the integrity of the original design. I’ll be sharing some of what I’ve learned over years from remodeling several of these historic antiquities and provide some ideas for building your own plantation home in Kekaha so stay tuned.

The Kauai Westside Watershed Council coordinated a very special event in the Kekaha Beach Park last weekend, bringing west side residents together for food, games, sand sculpture and entertainment. The event was scheduled rain or shine - in this case, rain, but that’s not enough to stop this town from having fun!
