Rest in Peace Kainoa Chandler Forrest July 22, 2010

My co-blogger, Debi Rickert, and I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the recent passing of a very dear friend, Kainoa Chandler Forrest.

Kainoa was a strong, passionate, generous, and, overall, wonderful woman.  She and her family are the essence of Hanalei and the true spirit of “Aloha”.

She and her husband Skip coached, hosted fundraisers, regattas, and started the Youth Program at the Hanalei Canoe Club.

Her passion for the sport, along with her true love of the islands, made it easy for everyone to get excited about paddling canoes.  She always made sure that everyone understood the origins of paddling as well as the traditions of the Hawaiian people when they signed up as part of the club.

On a personal note, both Debi and I have wonderful memories of Kainoa as not only our coach, but also as a true friend.

She will be missed but her memories will live in our hearts forever.
