We all benefit from the run/walk….. February 19, 2008
Posted by Sarah in : Updates , add a commentThis weekend I participated in the Great Aloha Run on Oahu with an associate of mine, Ruth Marvin. This event is an annual fundraiser for various charities statewide with over 25,000 participants. The event is an 8 mile run/walk that begins along the Nimitz Highway and ends at Aloha Stadium. Congratulations to everyone that ran or walked this wonderful event. Now let’s run/walk back to the Garden Isle…..
Kauai is home to some of the rarest and most unique plants in the world. Alvin “Bino” Castelo wants to see more of them in our gardens and landscaping. On January 31 at the Hanalei School cafeteria, Bino of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Limahuli Valley in Haena shared his expertise to some 30 interested residents. Eight topics from ground covers to weed management were covered to promote more planting of native species. The 1 & 1/2 hour presentation was followed by “talk story” around dozens of potted Hawaiian plant specimens. You can get further information by calling the National Tropical Botanical Garden at 808-742-2623.
