The Best Dinner in Kona

Aloha,

I am a food person. Whenever I travel, I remember the food. If the food was good, it was a good trip. If the food was not so good, then the trip was not so good.

When I was a teenager I went to Italy with my dad. It was an incredible trip. We went to Florence, and Venice, and Assisi. Went to all the museums. I remember my dad pointing a lot, and saying, “that’s a famous painting, make sure you look at it.” I remember a lot of things about that trip (canals in Venice, enormous doors in all the churches, warm and friendly people), and it was wonderful. The food, of course was amazing. The best pizza ever was in Assisi, at a little restaurant in the basement of a building. And Gelato in little plastic cups. And pastries with layers of interesting flavors.

Anyway, you get the point that I am a food person.

I recently had a birthday (new decade!). I went for dinner at the Four Seasons Hualalai, to the Beach Tree Bar and Grill. The tables are right next to the beach (and some are on the beach), and the Four Seasons Hualalai is said to be one of the nicest resorts in the world. My birthday was on a Wednesday, and that happens to be Italian night at the Beach Tree. Lucky me!

The food was stellar. Italian night features a salad/ antipasto bar, and an optional pasta buffet and dessert buffet. I am not really a buffet person (can’t stop eating) so I ordered off the menu – Chicken Saltimboca. It was very, very good. And the salad bar had fabulous fresh mozzarella which is one of my favorite things. But it was not just about the food. It was the whole experience, sitting for dinner, listening to music, watching the sun set over the ocean, and walking on the beach after dinner… It was just breathtaking.

I wanted to bring my daughter there some time. (She really likes buffets, and the desserts looked to die for.) There were lots of families there, and lots of kids. Very family friendly. If you want to take your family out for a special dinner in a beautiful place, but still be casual, this is a great choice.

You can view more info about the Beach Tree Bar and Grill, and some sample menus, here, and more about the Four Seasons Hualalai here.

As always, thanks for visiting!

Mahalo,

Monica
